Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest and in the Columbia River Gorge in Washington; Vancouver Island to California.

Habitat: Prairies, rocky balds, sagebrush flats, oak and ponderosa pine woodlands, where moist in early spring.

Flowers: January-June

Identification Notes:

Occurs both east and west of the Cascades in Washington. Filament tube is less strongly enlarged at base and tepals are a darker reddish-purple color. Commonly has only 1-2 flowers per stem.
